| The Supreme Court
of Delaware, the Delaware Law Related Education Center and
the Delaware State Bar Association are poised to host the
2008 National High School Mock Trial Championship May 8 -
10, 2008 in Wilmington, Delaware.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Doubletree Hotel,
700 North King Street, Wilmington beginning at 6:30 pm on
May 8, 2008. The Honorable Carolyn Berger of the Delaware
Supreme Court; the Honorable James M. Baker, Mayor of the
City of Wilmington; the Honorable Joseph R. Biden III, Attorney
General for the State of Delaware; and the Honorable M.
Jane Brady of the Superior Court of Delaware will welcome
the 42 teams from the United States, Guam, Commonwealth
of the Mariana Islands, and South Korea to the 25th Annual
National Championship.
Two rounds of competition will be held on Friday, May 9
at the New Castle County Courthouse, 500 North King Street,
Wilmington beginning at 8:30 a.m. The New Castle County
Courthouse will be closed to the public to host this most
prestigious event. There will be 2 rounds of competition
on Saturday, May 10, beginning at 8:30 am followed by the
Final Round at 4:15 pm. Only pre-registered observers can
attend the competition. The Charter School of Wilmington
will represent Delaware and the State runner-up, Archmere
Academy of Claymont will be in attendance.
The co-host directors for this 25th National High School
Mock Trial Championship are the Honorable Joseph R. Slights
III of the Superior Court; Francis J. "Pete" Jones
Jr., Esquire, Morris, James LLP; and Franny M. Haney, Manager
of Judicial Branch Education in the Administrative Office
of the Courts.
The 25th Anniversary National Championship will include
a pin exchange/opening ceremony on Thursday, May 8 at the
Doubletree Hotel; an excursion aboard the M.V. Twin Capes
of the Delaware River and Bay Authority on Friday, May 9,
and will end with the annual awards banquet at the Chase
Center on the Riverfront on Saturday, May 10.
Presenting the championship awards will be the Honorable
Ruth Ann Minner, Governor of the State of Delaware and the
Honorable Myron T. Steele, Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court of Delaware. The Justices of the Delaware Supreme
Court along with Mayor Baker, New Castle County Executive
Chris Coons, and Elizabeth McGeever, President of the Delaware
State Bar Association will present additional awards. Read
