Events

All registered participants will be issued badges to wear to various official events. At the Registration/Information Desk, Official Team Members will be issued tickets or wristbands, depending upon the event, to the activities. (View Complete Event Schedule.)

Admission to these activities will be limited to those individuals who have official tickets or are wearing the wristband "tickets" assigned specifically to each event. Wristbands will be checked at each social event, and no one will be granted admission without the assigned wristband to the event. Tickets are the only way to gain admittance to these events. No exceptions to this policy will be made.

Except for the Twin Capes Dinner Cruise, and the Saturday Awards Banquet at the Chase Center, all events are within walking distance. Transportation will be provided on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Practice Rooms

A number of rooms have been reserved on Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8 for teams to use as practice/meeting rooms. Practice Rooms were reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

Neither the host state nor the NHSMTC, Inc. Board has a policy regarding scrimmages. Teams scrimmage at their own discretion and risk.

View the Practice Room Schedule. It will also be posted at the Mock Trial Registration/Information Desk.

The Competition

All rounds of the competition will be held at the New Castle County Courthouse, 500 North King Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

NOTE ON COURTHOUSE SECURITY:

Plan to arrive at the Courthouse between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on both days of competition.

For security purposes, persons entering the Courthouse will have to pass through a metal detector before being allowed access to the building.

Everyone should leave ALL cell phones, BlackBerries, pagers, pocketknives, nail-clippers, large metal accessories, etc. in the hotel room or at home.

CELL PHONES ARE NOT PERMITTED IN THE COURTHOUSE.

These items slow down the entry process into the Courthouse and could cause unnecessary delays in the schedule.

Prior to each round of competition, signs will be posted in the lobby of the courthouse identifying the courtroom number and floor in which each team is competing. Before the Friday and Saturday morning rounds, signs will also be posted at the Doubletree and Sheraton.

All teams will participate in four rounds of competition. Round 1 pairings will be determined by a random draw. Power matching, as described in Rule 5.6, will be applied thereafter. The top two teams will compete in the Championship Round on Saturday afternoon. The top ten winning teams will be recognized at the Awards Banquet on Saturday evening, May 10, 2008.

Team Code Badges

When teams check in at the Registration / Information Desk, Team Code Letters will be issued. Team Code Letters (rather than school name or state) will be used to identify teams during the trials.

Team code badges must be worn in the courthouse by all Official Team Members (six to eight students, and the timekeeper if a ninth student is the sole timekeeper for the team), teacher sponsor, attorney coach, and the state mock trial coordinator at all times.

While in the courthouse, no one (including students, teacher sponsors, attorney coaches, state coordinators, or observers) is permitted to wear anything that would reveal his/her home state or territory. This includes letter jackets or other items of clothing that would reveal his or her home state or school.

Team Rosters

Defendant Team Roster Forms and Plaintiff Team Roster Forms are contained in the mock trial case materials. Pursuant to Rule 3.5 of the Mock Trial Rules of Procedure, teams must exchange copies of the Team Roster Forms and copies must be provided to all members of the judging panel (1 presiding; 3 scoring judges) prior to the start of each round of competition. Teams are to bring an adequate number of copies of this form for the entire tournament.
